Multiple hosts monitoring

Now the application can track connection to multiple hosts simultaneously. Connection to every host is checked independently, so a total number of configured monitored hosts has no direct influence on the monitoring quality.

Free and Professional editions

Starting from this version, the application is available as a Free and Professional editions. The Free edition is a freeware that can be used for monitoring of up to 5 hosts simultaneously. The Professional edition can be used for monitoring of unlimited number of hosts simultaneously and requires a commercial license. Application editions have other differences, explained in the Feature List.

Switchable Data Views

Monitoring information for hosts can be represented in different modes. According to your personal preferences and a current task, you switch between table view presentation and one of card view presentation modes.

Extended monitoring information

In addition to number of outages and percent of passed pings and uptime now application provides an additional live statistics that allows to measure connection quality. It includes extended ping statistics: minimal, maximal, average ping response time and response time of the last ping. And also it provides information about shortest and longest outage time.

Auto-monitoring option

New Auto-monitoring option in application preferences allows automatic launching of host monitoring on application start up. If this option is turned on, then configured monitoring operation will be automatically started on application start up. It is useful, for example, if you need to make continuous host availability control by adding Ping Monitor to the system autostart, because Auto-monitoring option allows you to start host monitoring automatically.

Options update

Starting from this version you can change monitoring and notifications options without monitoring restart. New options are applied immediately after change even if monitoring is currently turned on.

New product name

Starting from this version, the product name was changed to EMCO Ping Monitor. The new name more accurately represents a current functionality of the application and a set of planned features.

Configurable database location

New tab on the Preferences page allows you to define a location of the database storage. Using this setting you can create multiple application configurations and easily switch between them, for example, when you take configuration from our colleague, while keeping your own configuration untouched.

Connection status and statistics

The main application form was reworked to contain information about the connection status and main statistics about the connection quality. The status of connection is represented by the green (connection established), red (connection lost) or yellow (last ping failed) icon. Connection statistics includes uptime and passed pings percentage and the total number or detected outages.

Configurable event handlers

Starting from this version execution of terminate action (such as Shutdown, for example) in case of connection lost detection become optional. Thus, terminate action will be executed only if correspondent option is enabled on the main form.

Also application now can execute specified commands or launch programs on connection loss and restore events. Correspondent options can be enabled and configured on the main form too.

Connection monitoring options

Now more monitoring options are available for manual tuning. You can configure not only ping timeout and outage detection condition, but also interval between passed and failed pings and interval for ping statistics report. Configuration of separate intervals between passed and failed pings allows faster outage detection. Thus, you can configure a shorter interval between failed pings to reach outage condition faster, while having a larger interval between passed pings when connection is stable.

E-mail notifications

In this version all notifications sent by e-mail are configurable. You can choose if you would like to receive notifications on connection loss and recovery, on execution of terminate actions and regular ping statistics. Every option can be configured separately.

E-mail templates

If you don't like e-mail notification messages or need to make them shorter (for example to receive SMS notifications though Email-to-SMS service), you can change existing templates on the Templates tab on the Preferences dialog.

Extended Tray pop-up menu

Set of options, available in the pop-up menu in the System Tray was extended to include access to Preferences, application information links. You can also manage Tray options directly in pop-up menu, without opening the Preferences dialog.

Automatic check for updates

New updates checking feature keeps you informed about new releases. It works in automatic mode at the application startup and informs you if any updates are available, so you can migrate to new version quickly.

Ping options configuration

All setting, used by ping operation for detection of remote availability, now can be configured on Preferences dialog. You can set or change ping interval and timeout; timeout for ping statistics reporting; and number or unsuccessful pings for host unavailability detection.

E-Mail notifications

Now you can not only execute actions when remote host isn't available, but also get e-mail notifications about all changes. You will be notified about ping failures and all actions, executed on PC, where application is started.

E-mail options can be enabled and configured on the application Preferences dialog. You can send e-mail notifications though any server with SMTP connection if you set it in the configuration options.

Brand new UI

Application comes with a brand new interface, benefiting from modern design and usability concepts. New interface is based on Ribbon UI with elegant style similar to MS Office 2007.

Changeable UI skins

If you don't like standard UI look, you can change it to another one. Application comes with a set of various UI skins, so you can customize interface according with your taste. You can switch it from the top menu and choose between a set of strict skins or have a fun and choose some informal one.
